How Much Bromine do You Really Need?

The common guidelines you’ll read and hear about bromine levels in your hot tub do not apply to FROG^®! You probably already knew that, however, we realize that reading or hearing these “common” guidelines can be confusing, right?

 

Here’s a quick comparison of bromine levels in bromine-only hot tubs to FROG Serene^®:

A traditional bromine system typically works by adding bromine to the hot tub as needed; usually weekly, and bromine must be added manually.

Manually adding bromine means you may want to use gloves, dealing with the smell and making sure it’s safely stored away from children and pets.

You eliminate manually adding bromine with FROG Serene because the bromine cartridge is prefilled. Adding bromine means replacing the cartridge, that’s it.

But that’s not all – the Mineral Cartridge is what makes the difference.

Bacteria is killed 2 ways – with FROG Fresh Minerals and a low level of bromine. That means less bromine irritation, odor and swimsuit fade, but all the power of 2 sanitizers. Plus, FROG Minerals absorb acids to help keep pH balanced and create softer feeling water.

If your hot tub bromine levels read higher than 0.5, you’re wasting bromine. If you’re having trouble:

• Check to ensure that your Mineral Cartridge is less than 4 months old.
• Add a new Mineral Cartridge every time you drain and refill your hot tub.
• Adjust the dial for the right setting for your hot tub – for FROG Serene Floating System see the chart in the manual; for the In-Line system see the chart in the manual.
• Use FROG Test Strips to test your water and ensure your levels are correct:
  • Total Alkalinity: 80 – 120 ppm
  • pH: 7.2 – 7.8
  • Total Hardness: 150 – 250

If these levels are not within guidelines, it will make a difference in how much bromine is used and how effective it is or it isn’t.
